The United Nations' (UN) World Refugee Day is observed on June 20 each year. This event honors the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence.

World Refugee Day 2009 will focus on Real People. Real Needs

The Florida Center for Survivors of Torture will honor all of the refugees that have started new lives in South Florida through the following celebrations:

Tampa Bay Event

On December 4, 2000, the General Assembly of the United Nations unanimously adopted a resolution naming June 20 as World Refugee Day. In observance to this resolution DCF, USF and all the Refugee services providers will host an event on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 1:30 pm.

Miami-Dade Event

RYFP World Refugee Day Poster Contest

The Miami-Dade RYFP is seeking kids who are interested in drawing and painting to participate in our World Refugee Day Poster Contest! The first planning meeting will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009. We would like children and parents to attend this first meeting, where we will also explain this group project in greater detail. Bring your ideas and your creativity and get ready to show your artistic talents and have fun!
