Sergey arrived in the United Stated in 2005 on a student visa. He was referred to the FCST by a social service agency. Although Sergey had already acquired the services of a private attorney to assist him in applying for asylum based on his experience of persecution in his home country, his case had become blocked due to a lack of evidence supporting his claims.
We assisted Sergey in accessing psychological services and a professional psych assessment from NOVA Southeastern University to support his application for asylum. We also connected Sergey with a neurologist, Dr. Don Mellen who provided his expertise to provide credible evidence for Sergey’s story.
As of January of this year, Sergey became an asylee in the US. The court granted his asylum based on his evidence that he was persecuted for his religious beliefs in his native country. Sergey expressed that he has a sense of peace now that he’s an asylee and is optimistic about his future in the US. He expressed his gratitude towards the FCST staff, NOVA Southeastern University and Dr. Don Mellen for their supporting efforts in his asylum case. We will continue to support the client with his social service needs.
